Race 8 – LGBT 5K – Fri 21st July 2017

For the second time in the last three years this race was included in the club Grand Prix and 32 of our runners (23 from the Grand Prix) turned out on what was quite a warm and breezy evening on the Town Moor. The surface underfoot is not always the best on this route either, although it was noted that a couple of the paths being used had been resurfaced fairly recently. Although many runners were wearing – or in some cases only just wearing – fancy dress there were enough club athletes from across the region for our own best not to have it all their own way.

First back for Blyth was Paul Whalley, whose return from injury seems to be going well, followed by Graham Wood whose debut season is going from strength to strength. First lady was Claire Calverley, with Julie Lemin and Sandra Watson fighting it out for second and Julie just winning, not least because she got across the start line a few seconds earlier than Sandra. Well done to all concerned.

Next race in the Grand Prix is another 5K and this one is even closer to home at Northumberlandia, although it might be worth noting that 9 of our Friday evening runners were racing again just over 36 hours later at the Northumberland Coastal Run. Hopefully, they all had enough time to recover between races!
