Relays - Wed 26th Oct 2016
The thirtieth running of the
Top House Autumn Relays was held on Wednesday the 26th of October 2016. A cool, slightly breezy evening welcomed
the 48 runners (16 teams) taking to the start line. It's amazing what running as part of a
team can do with 34 runners being faster than expected, with a couple exceeding
expectations by more than 2 minutes (or maybe the handicapper just got it
disastrously wrong!).
Congratulations go to the
winning team of Hayley Raithby, Dave Bradley and Liam
Marsh, after a much better than expected first leg by Hayley both Dave and Liam
produced solid runs to give team L a victory over team J (D McGarry,
C Calverley and E Hetherington) by 18 seconds. Although being caught by Jake Masterman, Dave Roberts showed huge determination to hang
on to give his team third place, even though both teams were credited with the
same overall time.
Jake Masterman
was the fastest on the night with 12:28, with Leanne Herron, the quickest
female with a time of 14:48, just 3 seconds slower than her own female veteran
record from last year.
With 11 runners taking part in
the Autumn Relays for the first time this gives a total of 340 different
competitors over the years, with the ever reliable Steve Gillespie continuing
with his incredible record of having completed all 30.
Thanks to Kevin, Liz, Dave,
Andi Capper and all their marshals/helpers for ensuring the event continues to
run as smoothly as ever.
