Race 12 - Saltwell 10k – Sat 17th December 2022

The final race of the GP season was a very cold Saltwell Park 10K, the council and Santa Elves did a great job of gritting the route. It was a very undulating race and 13 Blyth runners ran this race of which 9 were in the GP. Unfortunately Dave Bradley pulled up with a calf issue, hope you are not out too long Dave.

Race 11 – Brampton to Carlisle 10 Mile – Sun 20th November 2022

Race 11 of the GP 2022 was the very popular Brampton to Carlisle 10-mile road race. It was a very early meet at Blyth Sports Centre for our coach journey to Brampton. The weather was ideal with clouds breaking, providing lovely Autumn sunshine and a slight headwind.

Twenty eight runners from Blyth of which nineteen were in the GP turned up ran the 70th edition of this famous race. Michael Stott was first home for the club in an impressive time of 55min 35secs.

Race 5 – Solway Half – Sun 5th June 2022

Sunday 5th June 2022, was a very early start for 14 Blyth runners taking part in GP race No.5

The Solway half marathon is a flattish scenic race run on roads of North West Cumbria, the start and finish were in the little village of Anthorn, it was 1 loop through country lanes of Bowless-on-Solway returning via the coastal roads with views across to the estuary and Skiddaw in the distance.

The weather initially was cold, over cast and breezy, but quickly changed to sun and a strong breeze off the Irish Sea in the face, what felt like all bar a mile of the 13.  There was also a marathon which was two laps, they went off 30 minutes ahead of us, but no Blyth runners in the marathon.

We had entrants from all the divisions, and a huge well done to all those who hadn’t run never mind raced a half marathon in over two years, a bit of a shock to the legs. The support through a couple of the villages was a bonus, along with Angela and Fiona being the official coat keepers and photographers and of course the Marshalls particularly the ones in yellow high viz (Blyth members). There was the slight hazard / delay of cows in the road, but only a handful of cars on the road, so lovely safe route. The social club were really kind and let us use their facilities and even made us coffee.

A great effort by all with a special mention to Anne Cradock and John Younger for first in their age category, well done.

Would I do it again? Yes

Regards.  Sandra Watson.

Race 4 – Blyth 9M (2 laps of MMM) – Sun 24th April 2022

It was a fresh sunny morning down at South Beach for the start of MMM (2laps) race. After a quick briefing, race got underway and the run along through the dune path was pleasant enough as the group of runners stretched out. It wasn't until we reached the end of the dune path and headed back to South Beach that we hit the headwind. The long path by the road from Sluice to South Beach was hard going with no shelter from the wind. Unfortunately there were a few dog owners who didn't have their dogs under control and Dayle had to retire from the race after an incident with a dog.

Race 2 – Signals Relays – Sat 19th February 2022

Our 2nd GP race of the season was at the lovely setting of Hetton Le Hole Country Park. The race was the Signal Relays (2 laps of the Park) 2.2 miles. We had an incredible 37 runners representing Blyth of which 30 were in the GP. What I loved about this event was the camaraderie and the support to fellow runners. There were fantastic performances and only a few seconds between runners in several divisions.  I spoke to one of the marshals  and he thought it was brilliant seeing so many from Blyth. On a side note it was great seeing Callum back wearing green & white, welcome back mate.

Regards.  Michael Ashby.

Race 1 – Newbiggin Park Run – Sat 22nd January 2022

The first Grand Prix race of the new season saw a very healthy turnout of 57 Blyth runners, 36 from the Grand Prix, for the local Newbiggin Park Run on a beautiful morning along the promenade.  For several of our runners, this was not only their first Grand Prix race but also their first in club colours. Fifteen pb’s were recorded and nine ran at Newbiggin for the first time.  Winners in divisions 1 to 6 respectively were; Henry Madden, David Shields, Mark Rudkin, Michael Ashby, Stephen Forster and Chris Claassen.
