Start Fitness NE Harrier League Wrekenton

[Sun 15th Feb 2009] Despite the wintry storms that hit the area last Thursday, the third meeting of the Start Fitness North Eastern Harrier League at Wrekenton, Gateshead went ahead without any problems on Saturday 14th Feb.  What greeted the runners was an undulating course, consisting of sections of ice, snow, plenty of standing water and deep mud.  There was a great turnout from the senior men with 12 finishers and again the senior women fielded a full team.  The ladies finished 10th team, with Suzanne Hunter first back in 26th place, followed by Helen Morris in 41st, Julie Lemin (51st) and Sharon Richardson (79th).

The men finished 8th in Div 2 with Craig Birch First back in 112th place ( a great run from the medium pack), followed by Kevin Freeman in 137th, Graeme Stewart (189th), Steve Richardson (196th), Alex Sewell (223rd), Shaun Dodd (227th), Dave Bradley (228th), Keith Willshire (196th), Ralph (265th), Iain Singer (269th), Steve Bush (276th) and Terry Hart (283rd).

Unfortunately, there were only 5 juniors taking part, with Emma Freeman 8th and Stephanie Ramsey 17th in the U17/U20 ladies; Kirstie Johnson 15th in the U15 girls; Matthew Jackson 10th and Mark Nicholson 32nd in the U13 boys.

Come on all you runners out there, cross countries are great fun and your club needs you!
