Start Fitness NE Harrier League Wrekenton

[Sun 15th Feb 2009] Despite the wintry storms that hit the area last Thursday, the third meeting of the Start Fitness North Eastern Harrier League at Wrekenton, Gateshead went ahead without any problems on Saturday 14^th Feb. What greeted the runners was an undulating course, consisting of sections of ice, snow, plenty of standing water and deep mud. There was a great turnout from the senior men with 12 finishers and again the senior women fielded a full team. The ladies finished 10^th team, with Suzanne Hunter first back in 26^th place, followed by Helen Morris in 41^st, Julie Lemin (51^st) and Sharon Richardson (79^th).

The men finished 8^th in Div 2 with Craig Birch First back in 112^th place ( a great run from the medium pack), followed by Kevin Freeman in 137^th, Graeme Stewart (189^th), Steve Richardson (196^th), Alex Sewell (223^rd), Shaun Dodd (227^th), Dave Bradley (228^th), Keith Willshire (196^th), Ralph (265^th), Iain Singer (269^th), Steve Bush (276^th) and Terry Hart (283^rd).

Unfortunately, there were only 5 juniors taking part, with Emma Freeman 8^th and Stephanie Ramsey 17^th in the U17/U20 ladies; Kirstie Johnson 15^th in the U15 girls; Matthew Jackson 10^th and Mark Nicholson 32^nd in the U13 boys.

Come on all you runners out there, cross countries are great fun and your club needs you!
