Track & Field Heat 3 – Chester-Le-Street

[Mon 6th Jul 2009]  On a hot, sunny and very humid Sunday afternoon on the 5th July, the combined Blyth and Wallsend team again joined the fray in the third heat of Division 4E in the North of England Track & Field League.  Although there were few individual victories, the excellent support from both clubs meant that points were gained in virtually all the events, resulting in a creditable third place overall on the day.  In fact the combined team has finished third in each round so far and are third overall after the three fixtures.

Individual wins from the Blyth athletes were by Paul Whalley in the 3000m steeplechase ‘B’ race, Leanne Herron in the 1500m ‘B’ race and Helen Morris in the 3000m ‘B’ race.  Thanks go to the athletes of both clubs who turned up and took part in events for the first time, with Andrea Scott, Paul Whalley and Dave Bradley in the 400m hurdles and triple jump, Ken Turnbull taking part in most of the throwing events and Lisa Dean in the 400m and javelin being good examples of many who enjoyed their first taste of track and field.
