Club Paarlauf

[Wed 28th Dec 2011]

And yet another new “event”, although this one was basically a training session with a twist and nobody was seeming to take it too seriously. The strong winds did not deter 28 members turning up at the trading estate to take part in the clubs first paarlauf relay. The idea was that the names would be put into two hats and then the pairs would be drawn out, Ralph drew the first name out with Terry Hart drawing the other name. Each pair would be given a bean bag and the bean bag had to complete 12 laps of a 500 metre loop, each runner could do as many or as few laps as they wanted to – it was up to each pair to decide how they were going to run it. Initially, there looked to be some strong pairings on paper – but they must have got blown away in the wind.  The first 14 runners set off in a stampede, with Chris L first back passing onto Dave S, while Terry was at the back passing onto Michael. Most of the pairs had formulated some sort of strategy, Ron did about 4 – 5 laps letting the younger Scott do the majority. The front two were never seriously challenged as they went on to win the event by a minute – lapping several of the runners. The Sam/Kevin partnership worked their way through to finish in second place, while Jake/Martin were always there or thereabouts and finished in third place.  The Cath/Leanne partnership were consistent throughout the race and were in 14th position in 11 out of the 12 laps (including the last one).

Although just a “fun” event there were prizes for the first three teams of wine/sweets.
