NE Vets Open Road Relay Champs


The inaugural north east vets open road relay championships took place on 10th august- at the rendez vous cafe, Whitley Bay.  The first race was for women over 35 and men over 65.  It was a 1 lap course of approximately 2k, starting on the promenade near the links along to the war memorial and back onto the prom.  The ladies team of Heather Christopher - who stormed off on the first leg-finishing in 3rd place, followed by Helen Morris-who maintained 3rd to hand over to Julie Clark, who had a great last leg and gained a place, bringing the ladies team home in silver position.


The second race was for men 35-64.  The team of Andrew Henderson, Steve Cairns and Iain Singer ran in the over 35 category and finished in 4th place, whilst the over 55 team of Dave Bradley who ran the 1st leg, passing over to Ralph Dickinson and finally John Mallon, came back in silver position.  A great evening for Blyth running club and a well organised event by the vets association  


Fastest man on the day was North Shields Poly's Guy Bracken, recording 6.39 and fastest female was Darlington's Bernedette Caggill in 8.01.
