Northumberland Schools Track and Field Championships - 2013

A big well done to all our junior athletes who represented North East Northumberland in the Northumberland Schools Track and Field Championships at a sunny Gateshead Stadium on Saturday 8th June. The top two in each event qualify for the Inter Counties T&F Champs at Middlesbrough on Saturday 15th June.

The first event of the day was the senior boy's 2000m steeplechase, where Calum ran a strong pb of 7:35.08 to finish second. The senior boy's 3000m saw Jake finish first with a time of 10:14.88. Erin was next away in the junior girls 800m where, in a very strong field, she ran well to post a time just outside her pb of 2:53.53 in finishing tenth.

Then came the 100m heats, with Alice (junior girl's) and Charlotte (inter girl's) both progressing to their respective finals with times of 13.86 (3rd) and 13.39 (1st). In the finals later in the day Alice finished 6th in a time of 13.91 and Charlotte 2nd in 13.28. Some 90 minutes after the heats of the 100m both Alice and Charlotte returned to the track for the 200m heats, although Alice qualified and ran in the final later in the day for some unknown reason her name is not in the results. Charlotte ran a solid 28.2 for second in her heat and followed this up by winning the final in 26.64, not bad after 4 sprints within 3 hours.

Moving up in distance to the 1500m saw Charlie run 5:11.14 for third in the inter girl's, and immediately afterwards James recorded a pb of 4:37.08 for fourth in the inter boy's.

In the field events Bethan jumped 8.96m to win the senior girl's triple jump and followed this up with third in the high jump (1.4m), where in the same competition Sam Bell was second with 1.45m.

As no inter girls ran in the 3000m on the day, Charlie has since been selected to run in this event at Middlesbrough. Good luck to all at the Inter Counties.
